We are a local Camera Club of approximately 25 members, based in Chigwell, Essex, that has been operating since 2000. Our primary concern is that we run a friendly, non-competitive group of people anxious to promote and develop their interest in photography in an enjoyable environment through a varied programme designed to meet diverse levels of knowledge and ability.

Our interests concentrate substantially on the two most important factors of good photography: firstly, mastery of the camera by taking a splendid photograph in the first place, and secondly, a sound level of competence in the management and processing of digital images and audiovisual media.

To meet these objectives the club meets once a fortnight: formal internal sessions are held monthly and comprise the study and manipulation of digital task work, interesting informative lectures, digital and print competitions with other local clubs; the other sessions are held mid-monthly and comprise external practical fieldwork around the local district designed to develop ‘the photographic eye’; these are supported by outings every quarter to places of photographic interest in and around London.

Finally it is worth mentioning that occasionally we are asked why we do not meet on a more regular weekly basis. Essentially it is because of the increase and poor value that arises from it. Photography is very much a personal activity that you need to spend time on developing and discovering your own parameters of interest and enjoyment.
